A WEST Cork trad group scooped one of the top prizes in a national music competition having entered it for the first time. Gluaiseacht, which is made up of eight young musicians from West Cork, won the third prize of €750 at the recent All-Ireland Final of Siansa Gael Linn in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

The 23 year-old, originally from Newcastle but now living in Glasgow, accepted the award from Gareth Hydes, Commissioning Editor, BBC Scotland, in a year that saw a very different finale to the prestigious competition. At Hands Up for Trad we want to keep musicians updated with opportunities that can benefit them and their careers. One of the ways we do this is to curate a monthly newsletter for musicians.
